Eastern Red Cedar
(Juniperus virginiana)

Eastern Red Cedar, though not a true cedar, is a very hardy and long lived tree. It is an excellent tree for wind breaks and protects against wind soil erosion.  Eastern Red Cedar is also valuable to many wildlife species, providing cover and food.  It is also very tolerant of saline soils, drought, heat, and cold.

Site Requirements: Grows well in a variety of soils, including clay, but does not tolerate continually moist soils.  It will also tolerate a moderate level of shade.
